Key Features to Consider
Forgiveness
Irons with a larger sweet spot and perimeter weighting provide more forgiveness on mishits. This is essential for mid-handicap players who may not always strike the ball perfectly. Look for irons with cavity-back designs or those made from composite materials for better forgiveness.
Distance
Mid-handicap players often struggle with generating consistent distance. Irons that offer strong ball speeds and launch angles can help maximize distance. The shaft flex and weight are also factors that can influence your swing speed and overall performance. Some irons come with adjustable weights, allowing you to customize the club to your swing.
Control
Control is another factor that shouldn’t be overlooked. Irons that offer good spin rates and launch angles can help you land the ball more precisely, giving you better opportunities for birdies and pars.

Hi Paul,
And as if your 6 handicap wasn’t enough to make us all envious, when it comes to irons, I’d highly recommend considering options like the Titleist T100 or the Titleist 620 MB. These clubs are known for their precision and control, which would complement your skill level beautifully.
So, spill the beans—what’s your secret to those incredible shots? Your choice of irons must be a big part of it! Keep up the fantastic game and keep us all wondering how you do it! 🏌️♂️⛳️

Just my humble opinion…a $200, 40 year old set of ping eye 2’s off of ebay is the PERFECT set for beginner to scratch. Spending a minimum of $800+ on irons alone…craziness. wish you had taken your article down that path, otherwise im sure the rich people thank you for the article.
Hey Tim,
Thanks for sharing your perspective, and I totally get where you’re coming from. Those classic Ping Eye 2’s from eBay can be a steal for golfers on a budget, and they’ve got that timeless charm.
I aimed to cover a wide range of options in the article to cater to different tastes and budgets. Golfers are a diverse bunch, and some may prefer the latest and greatest tech in their irons. But you’re absolutely right, those vintage clubs can deliver fantastic value and performance.
Your input is valuable, and I appreciate your feedback. If you have any more insights or recommendations, feel free to share. Golf is all about finding what works best for you, whether it’s classic clubs or the latest gear.
Happy swinging!
